Fredricks Hotel & Spa Maidenhead; a Review
On Monday last week I got the opportunity to experience my first ever antenatal spa day. It was the same as any normal spa day but with less champagne and more "OH JESUS" sounds every time I had to get up from the sun lounger without a hand rail or a serious shove from somebody.
Fredricks Hotel & Spa is in Maidenhead, Berkshire. It's about a 3 minute drive from the M4 so it's easy to find and there is also plenty of free parking at the front of the hotel. The spa is located at the right hand side of the hotel.
The spa itself is beautiful. It's light and airy and very clean. The pool is undoubtedly the most impressive aspect of the experience because it has sliding glass windows that open at the touch of a button and allow you to swim from the spa out into the courtyard. We were lucky enough to have fantastic sunshine for our visit which made the pool even better. The pool is heated and not too deep- I could touch the floor the whole way round and I'm a measly 5 foot 2. The spa isn't huge but I quite liked the fact that there were only about 15 beds around the pool. There were zero children and it was lovely and quiet.
We each had a 45 minute treatment at the spa- I had a facial and it was UNREAL. The masseuse was really conscious of my pregnancy (in a good way!) and asked a lot of questions about any aches and pains I was experiencing. She tailored the products she used to my skin type, and was very polite and accommodating throughout the experience. Sometimes I feel like a facial in a closed room with a stranger can be quite an awkward experience, but this wasn't awkward in the slightest.
The package that I'd bought included lunch and a few complimentary drinks (teas, coffees, some iced tea). I expected the lunch to be a mediocre buffet-type offering, but it was a full menu with a good mix of healthy and slightly less healthy options. I went for the Club Sandwich. It was a bit big for me, but the plate was full and the food was fresh.
I drove home feeling AMAZING and I've already nagged all of my friends about whether we can for the day in May. I'd highly recommend Fredricks as a relaxing day out- the staff were lovely and the facilities were great.
