As you are reading this I will likely be in a private saltwater pool in Kalkan, Turkey, with a glass of wine in my hand. It has finally arrived; #HenParty2k15! In my typical last minute style, my holiday shopping arrived this morning and I thought I would share some photos with you...
I always find it difficult to find a maxi dress that fits, mainly because I am so short (5"2!). Recently I've seen an increasing number of retailers choosing to stock a selection of petite maxi dresses and Very.co.uk in particular had a really good range of beautiful dresses at reasonable prices.
I picked out 3 maxi dresses. The first is a gorgeous nautical themed halterneck with white and navy stripes and a really unusual yellow trim around the arms. It is gathered at the waist and the halterneck is a rope finish rather than a heavy neckline. The dress is a perfect length whether you want to wear flats or wedges and looks lovely with chunky gold jewellery and a rope detail beach bag.
The next dress I picked out was a red and green rouche-print maxi (bear with me on this one). I thought the print was really unusual and slightly reminiscent of flocked feathers. The material is light and very pretty and the neckline offers a good amount of coverage from the sun if, like me, you prefer to hide from it than bask in it. #Factor50.
The last maxi dress I bought was a black Grecian style with a lower neckline. I got it from Coast and whilst it wasn't cheap it fits me perfectly and is very flattering. It is heavier than the other dresses though so it's probably going to be an evening outfit for me. Both of these dresses look great with a silver bracelet and some strappy sandals.
The Essentials; Skater Dresses, Shorts, Shirts and Accessories
I am a huge fan of skater dresses in hot countries. They always look lush, especially if you're on the plus sized end of the scale like me, and they work really well in both the daytime and the evening. I found this one by South at Very.co.uk. It's summery, light and it has an embellished neckline which means you don't have to worry about having a necklace around your neck when it's hot. Did I say neck too much there? Neck.
I also picked up two pairs of denim jeans (high waisted- holds the lumps in) and a handful of genuine cotton V-neck T-shirts in white, black and grey. They don't take up much room in your bag and they weigh next to nothing but you gotta have the staple basics, of course.
By way of shoes and accessories, I'm taking some white jelly sandals with studded silver medallions. I'm also taking some black block heeled sandals to wear to restaurants or bars in the evening. I managed to get an amazing deal on a Carvela Evie chain snake clutch bag from Very.co.uk (£37 down from £60!) and of course I'll be taking a summery nail varnish or two. Have you ever painted your nails whilst drunk? Try it. Very therapeutic.
I'm a shameless fan of white Birkenstocks so mine will be accompanying me everywhere. I also grabbed an oversized stripy beach bag with rope handles. It's huge and hardwearing and will easily fit a few books, an iPad, water bottles and sun cream inside it.
I've got a tonne of jewellery but I fell in love with this necklace in particular. I got it from Very.co.uk (okay this is turning into a Very haul) and they call it a "Metal Work Rope Necklace". It's currently out of stock, but it's so unusual and goes with so many of my summer outfits. I've worn it to death already, I hope it comes back in one piece!
That is the majority of my holiday clothing haul. I'll be away for a week, see you on the July 12th!
