Am I fanatical about coffee? Yes, I am. I love coffee. I can't start my day without a large white Americano and I've always got a coffee cup in the car raring to go. I drink 2 to 3 cups of coffee per day. That being said, I'm not particularly fussy. I think that there are a lot of coffee brands that taste better than a Starbucks and cost half the price. I spent a good month hooked on a Tesco Columbian brand and I ain't ashamed to say it. When the lovely Rhys at CRU Kafe reached out to ask me if I'd like to try some of their 100% organic coffee capsules I pretty much jumped at the chance...
The first thing I noticed about the CRU Kafe delivery was the packaging. It's eco-friendly cardboard but more importantly it fitted through my front door perfectly, much like a Graze box does. I think this is really important these days; I'm almost never home on weekdays to receive parcels and when I get things delivered to the office I forget them in my desk drawer (or somebody cottons on and steals my lovely lovely coffee).
The CRU Kafe packaging is compact and I loved the tongue-in-cheek print inside. "Maybe bad mornings do deserve a second chance?" I wondered, inspecting the flavours I'd been sent. Included were Light Roast, Dark Roast, Intense and also Decaf pods; 2 of each.
One of the main reasons why I was so drawn to CRU Kafe is the fact that the pods work with my Nespresso machines. A Nespresso machine isn't cheap and so once you've made that investment you're keen to make the most out of it. I think that "Nespresso-Friendly-Pods" is really a great decision by CRU Kafe and will certainly make it easy for coffee lovers to mix CRU Kafe into their morning routines. The pods are made entirely of biodegradable plastic- you simply throw them in the recycling with the rest of the household rubbish. I decided to try a Dark Roast blend...
The CRU Kafe coffee is gorgeous. You have to press the handle down on your machine a little bit more firmly than usual to get the pod to perforate but as soon as I smelled the coffee I knew I was going to love it. It's got a really earthy, rich taste which comes from the exclusive use of Arabica beans. It tastes as if it's been professionally poured and actually a little more like fresh bean than some of my traditional Nespresso pod flavours.
I found that the Decaf pods are perfect just before bedtime; you get all the benefits of a deliciously smooth cup of coffee without any of the caffeine that keeps you up at night. The Intense pods are particularly special and absolutely perfect for the die-hard coffee fan because the flavour is so luxurious and intense (see what I did there?). The pods live for about 18 months (not that they would ever survive in my kitchen for more than a week or two; they're too tasty for that) and CRU Kafe have created a really handy subscription programme that allows you to get a box of 24 pods delivered directly to your doormat. Shipping is even included in the price!
The best thing about CRU Kafe is that you get to enjoy the organic coffee in a completely guilt free way. As I mentioned I'm never the first one at the carbon emission protests but everyone wants to do their bit to help the planet. The reality is that most of us lack the time of day. CRU Kafe have made it easy to incorporate this into your morning routine, simply by drinking your morning cup of Joe.
